Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and commentary on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, journalist and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency, a website to educate about female roles in the world of pop culture, is operated by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes about women and pop culture she also works to raise issues related specifically to the harassment of women and other marginalized classes of individuals in the internet area. The holder of a master's degree in politics and sociology from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was a fan of female issues as well as feminism from at a very young age. In 2009, while she was a student at the university level, she launched the site Feminist Frequency. The woman was determined and set out to develop a web-series focused on the gender roles in games. In the end, she came across herself in the middle of a cyber-bullying campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it bolstered the determination of feminists who criticize media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards due to her significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that investigates the representation of women in pop culture.
